About
Dr. Cory Rowe is an Associate Professor of Criminal Justice at LaGuardia. A native of Jackson Heights, her commitment to equity began in high school while working at the Boys Club of New York, where she saw the deep disparities between youth in Alphabet City and my peers in Forest Hills. That experience shaped her lifelong dedication to expanding opportunity for marginalized communities.
Through College Way, the organization she has taught with since 2015, she brings college courses and trauma-informed workshops into prisons, juvenile centers, and Rikers Island. At LaGuardia, she teaches and mentors justice-impacted students, women returning from Rikers, adults reentering after prison, and immigrant students building new lives in New York. Many stay connected for years as they pursue education, careers, and leadership roles.
A cornerstone of her work is experiential learning that builds confidence, community, and purpose. She has taken students to conferences, research projects, and nature retreats that unite people from diverse backgrounds around shared goals of justice and opportunity.
She also serves on CUNY’s University Faculty Senate Committee on Higher Education in Prisons, mentors graduate students, and advocates for alternatives to incarceration. Her work centers on the belief that education can transform lives and communities when it reaches those most often left out.
