Made possible with generous support by our donors, The LaGuardia Community College Foundation offers various financial assistance programs for eligible students of any citizenship status to help you achieve your goals.

Degree-seeking and continuing education students of any citizenship status are welcome to apply for Foundation financial assistance.

The Friedman Fund for new New Yorkers can also help degree and continuing education students of any non-citizen status with scholarships, emergency assistance, and stipends for enrichment programs.

Apply for the program that is appropriate for your interest and need.

Are you enrolled in a degree program? Apply for a scholarship.

These programs award scholarships each Fall and Spring semesters.

Foundation Named Scholarship 
Scholarships of $1,000+ are awarded to students after review of eligibility, application, and interview.

Eligibility
  • Any citizenship status (U.S. citizen, eligible non-citizen, or neither U.S. citizen nor eligible non-citizen)
  • 3.0+ GPA
  • Completed 12 academic credits at LaGuardia before applying
  • Full-time student registered for 12 credits or more, unless in their last academic year or a clinical health science major.
  • All majors
  • International students with F-1 Visa must contact the International Student Services office to complete required forms before applying.
Steps to Apply

After confirming your eligibility above, you will need to:

  1. Complete a FAFSA  or email a Needs Assessment Form to foundationscholarship@lagcc.cuny.edu
  2. Write a short personal statement (minimum 200 words) expressing your accomplishments, background, and school and career goals. Please note that you cannot save and return to your online application, so please have your personal statement ready to include with your application. See our winning writing tips!
  3. Submit your application for consideration.
  4. Wait for communication from the LaGuardia Foundation for a scheduled interview.


Friedman Fund Scholarship   

Scholarships of $500+ are awarded to students after review of eligibility and application.

Eligibility
  • Have neither U.S. citizen nor eligible non-citizen status
  • AND not eligible to apply for Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA)
  • 2.0+ GPA (first semester students are eligible to apply but must maintain a GPA of 2.0+)
  • Full-time student registered for 12 credits or more, unless in their last academic year or a clinical health science major.
  • All majors

Are you a continuing education student? Apply for a program.

Continuing Education Scholarship  
This program offers scholarships for select continuing education programs in workforce training, English language learning, and High School Equivalency in English. Apply here.

Do you have an urgent financial need? Apply for emergency assistance.

This program, offered through LaGuardia CARES, can connect you with financial assistance for daily living expenses, including food, rent, utilities, transportation, tuition, books, and more to help you stay in school. Apply here.

You may also be eligible for programs that offer enrichment and financial assistance based on your interest. Learn more about these programs.

Friedman Fellowship 
This program will allow student Fellows to participate in service-learning projects with one of the partnering departments on campus at LaGuardia, while gaining hands-on office experience, mentorship and professional development. Open to students of any non-citizen status enrolled in degree program or a certificate program within continuing education. Apply here.

SOAR Internship  
This program offers stipends to degree students to participate in paid, career-developing opportunities throughout New York City. Apply here.

President’s Society  
This program provides degree students the professional skills needed to succeed in today’s competitive world. Apply here.

Crossing the Finish Line  
This program helps motivated degree-seeking students complete their studies as quickly as possible, with the help of financial assistance and academic advising. Students are selected into the program via invitation only.

Merit Scholarship 
Funded by the Donald and Barbara Zucker Family Foundation, this program provides vital assistance to degree-seeking students who have a high level of financial need. Students are selected into the program via invitation only.
