About

Vera Albrecht has served on the faculty at LaGuardia since 2009, where she is currently the chair of the Humanities Department. Her research interests span metaphysics and object theory, philosophy of language, aesthetics, and ancient philosophy.

Dr. Albrecht holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the CUNY Graduate Center and earned three master’s degrees from Albertus Magnus Universität Köln in Cologne, Germany: an M.A. in Philosophy, an M.A. in Indology, i.e. Sanskrit and Indian Literature, and an M.A. in Ancient Greek Philology.

At LaGuardia, Dr. Albrecht has developed and taught a wide range of courses including Philosophy of Law, Philosophy of Art, Ethics and Moral Issues, Social and Political Philosophy, and Philosophy of Religion. She has also taught interdisciplinary learning communities, including “Constructing Gender” and the “Creativity Cluster.” Before joining LaGuardia, she taught at several CUNY institutions including the City College of New York, John Jay College, and New York City College of Technology.

Her scholarship appears in academic journals, with publications including “Don’t Lie to Me About Fictional Characters: Meinongian Incomplete Objects to the Rescue of Truth in Fiction” in Philosophy and Literature and “Plato on Content and Meaning: A Fregean Interpretation” in Existentia.
