About
Dr. Bukurie Gjoci, Associate Professor of Mathematics at LaGuardia, holds a PhD from Columbia University, an MS from Colorado State University, and a BS from the University of Tirana, Albania. She has taught at numerous universities in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Colorado and has extensive experience teaching a wide range of mathematics courses including arithmetic, calculus, discrete math, the history of mathematics, and statistics, among other topics. Dr. Gjoci guides students’ mathematical thinking in classroom environments that foster authentic active learning experiences and believes that every mathematical exercise performed properly increases intelligence. Her research interests are focused on mathematics learning and pedagogy, with publications on teaching/learning environment design, the role of struggle in mathematical understanding, curriculum development, problem posing and formative assessment, history of education, and more. As an active contributor to professional conferences and a member of AMATYC, Dr. Gjoci is committed to advancing mathematics education through scholarship and innovation. Her goal is to make the learning process enjoyable by generating excitement about the power, beauty and usefulness of mathematics, and making the content “as simple as possible, but not simpler” (Albert Einstein).
