About

Dr. Nurper Gökhan is a New York State-licensed clinical psychologist who received her Ph.D. from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1995. Since 2001, she has taught various psychology courses at LaGuardia. Trained in the cognitive behavioral approach, Dr. Gökhan specializes in the treatment of anxiety and stress-related disorders. Her research interests include top-down self-regulation processes in children, fronto-executive processes using animal models, and creative pedagogy in teaching psychology. In recent years, she has been exploring the value of mindfulness and other contemplative practices as a therapeutic adjunct to cognitive behavioral treatment, as well as a training modality for psychology students.
