About

As an undergraduate at New Jersey City University with a major in psychology and minor in community health, Dr. David S. Bimbi was trained as an HIV peer educator and interned at Harvey Milk High School in New York City. Before coming to LaGuardia, he worked in NIH- and CDC-funded HIV/AIDS and substance use behavioral research at Hunter College.

Dr. Bimbi also served 12 years on the board of directors of the Hudson Pride Center in Jersey City, where he developed healthy living workshops for transgender women. In 2016, Dr. Bimbi was inducted as a Fellow of the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality. He joined the faculty of the Health Sciences Department at LaGuardia in 2008.

In 2014, he helped develop the curriculum for the First Year Seminar in Health Sciences and wrote the proposal for the Public and Community Health program which officially launched in the fall of 2018. He served as the Director of the Human Services program from 2015 to 2022. Dr. Bimbi is currently a faculty member in the Public and Community Health major and also affiliated with the Department of Community Health and Social Sciences at the CUNY School of Public Health.
