About

Dr. Maria Jerskey is a Professor of Education and Language Acquisition at LaGuardia. She holds a Ph.D. in English Education (focused on multilingual writers of English) from New York University. She also has an M.A. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from Hunter College. She has published and presented widely on issues around language ideology and the concerns of multilingual writers who write and publish in academic environments.

At LaGuardia, she teaches courses in: language (English as a second language; French as a foreign language), linguistics, and bilingualism. She also teaches academic writing for multilingual writers at CUNY’s Graduate Center.

She founded and directs the Literacy Brokers Program, to promote the publication practices of multilingual scholars. Dr. Jerskey has been involved in professional committees and organizations that address the teaching and learning of writing, especially among multilingual writers, at CUNY and beyond (nationally and internationally). She has authored several college writing textbooks, including Globalization: A Reader for Writers (Oxford University Press) and Keys for Writers (Cengage) with Ann Raimes.
