About
Estefania Hernandez is a lecturer in the English department at LaGuardia, where she teaches composition and the craft of reporting news. She has a master’s degree in Journalism from the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism, a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism from Brooklyn College, and an associate degree in Communication Arts from LaGuardia.
She was previously an on-air reporter with her packages airing on both NY1 and Spectrum Noticias. Her writing has been published on NY1, Spectrum Noticias, NBC New York, City Lab, City Lab Latino, El Diario NY and Reforma. In 2018, she was the photographer alongside NY1 reporter Ruschell Boone who captured the exclusive interview of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez being told she won the primaries, a moment which went viral on several news outlets and social media. She was a finalist for the Mark of Excellence Award presented by the Society of Professional Journalists for an online feature about a priest who adopted 27 unaccompanied minors. She holds a Promising Filmmakers Award from CUNY. Estefania is a Queens native and LaGuardia graduate.
