Meet the Athletics Team
Marquee Poole
Athletic Director
Marquee Poole arrives with a championship pedigree and a proven record of excellence. In 2019, while serving as Interim Athletic Director at Hostos Community College, he guided the women’s basketball program to a National Championship, cementing a historic moment for the Caimans. During his tenure, Hostos achieved record graduation rates, multiple Scholar-Athletes, and several Players of the Year in both CUNY and Region XV, showcasing his ability to build programs that succeed academically and athletically.
As Assistant Athletic Director at Hostos, Poole also ensured NJCAA and Region XV compliance, expanded mental health resources for student-athletes, and led impactful community initiatives including breast cancer walks, turkey giveaways, and youth mentorship programs.

Beyond administration, Poole built an impressive coaching career. Since being named Head Coach of Hostos Men’s Basketball in 2014, he has delivered multiple CUNYAC Championships, Region XV titles, and NJCAA National Tournament appearances. Under his leadership, dozens of student-athletes earned All-Region, All-American, and Academic honors, with more than 100 moving on to four-year schools with athletic scholarships.
Known across New York City as one of the “Good Guys” in basketball, Poole is celebrated not only for winning on the court but also for mentoring and changing lives off it. A Harlem native and former standout at All Hallows High School, Poole played Division I basketball at St. Bonaventure University before dedicating his career to coaching, mentoring, and building pathways for student-athletes.
Coach Peter Briguglio
Head Coach, Men’s & Women’s Cross Country
Coach Peter Briguglio enters his third season as Head Coach of the Men’s & Women’s Cross Country program at LaGuardia. A UESCA-certified running coach and avid ultramarathon runner, he has completed elite races including the Vermont 100 Mile Endurance Run and the Black Canyon 100K.
Since 2015, Coach Briguglio has served LaGuardia in multiple roles, including sports information contact, assistant to the Athletic Director, and supervisor of events and fitness center operations. His dedication to athletics extends across many areas of the college. Before LaGuardia, he worked with the CUNY Athletic Conference as Sports Information Assistant and later served as Region XV Sports Information Director for four years.

From 2015–2020, he was also the Assistant Men’s Bowling Coach at St. John’s University. A native of Massapequa, NY, Coach Briguglio graduated from Briarcliffe College with a bachelor’s in business administration before earning his master’s in sport management from St. John’s University. His diverse background and passion for running make him an invaluable leader for LaGuardia’s cross country program.
Coach Nick Heupel
Assistant Coach, Men’s Soccer
Coach Nick Heupel begins his second season as Assistant Coach of the LaGuardia Red Hawks Men’s Soccer program. He started coaching with Soccer Without Borders in East Boston, a non-profit dedicated to empowering underserved youth through soccer. Over his 11-year career, Nick has coached players at all levels, from U6 to collegiate teams.
Before joining LaGuardia, he led U16 and U19 teams at Elephant Soccer Club of Harlem and earned his D-Level Coaching License from the US Soccer Federation, along with a Personal Training Certificate from the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Passionate about community engagement, Coach Nick organizes free Sunday pick-up games for communities in Harlem and the Bronx. His mission is to empower people, build connections, and break down barriers through soccer.
Coach Ahmed Johnson
Head Coach, Men’s Soccer
Coach Ahmed Johnson is entering his fourth season as Head Coach of the LaGuardia Red Hawks Men’s Soccer program. With more than 20 years of coaching and mentoring experience, Coach Johnson brings a deep passion for soccer and personal development to his team.
A proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. since 1988, he has guided young men to achieve success in every field of human endeavor. Coach Johnson instills the values of teamwork, discipline, dedication, and responsibility, while preparing his players to compete at a high level. Under his leadership, the team has produced Region 15 All-Academic student-athletes and continues to grow in excellence both on and off the field.
Coach Kat Kanhoye
Assistant Coach, Women’s Basketball
Coach Kat Kanhoye joins LaGuardia as Assistant Coach of the Women’s Basketball program after two seasons at Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC). At BMCC, she played a key role in recruiting, practice planning, game preparation, and mentoring student-athletes to grow on and off the court.
As a standout player at Bryant & Stratton College in Buffalo, Coach Kanhoye earned multiple honors, including preseason Player of the Year, First Team All-American, and Conference and National Player of the Year, while leading her team to the national semifinals. Her experience as both a decorated athlete and dedicated coach shapes her approach to the game, emphasizing competitiveness, preparation, and personal growth.
Coach Jarrett Lockhart
Head Coach, Men’s Basketball
Now in his fourth season as Head Coach of LaGuardia’s Men’s Basketball program, Jarrett Lockhart has quickly established himself as a transformative leader for the Red Hawks program.
In 2023-24, Lockhart made history by producing LaGuardia’s first-ever All-American, Arthur Dukes, who was named to the NJCAA 1st Team after leading the nation in scoring with 30.9 points per game. Dukes was also honored as CUNY and Region XV Player of the Year, a testament to Lockhart’s ability to elevate talent and mentor student-athletes both on and off the court.

Lockhart brings an impressive coaching résumé to LaGuardia. Prior to working at LaGuardia, he served at Jackson College (MI), led Victory Rock Prep (FL) as Head Coach, and spent four years at the NCAA Division I level with Florida International University (FIU) as Director of Basketball Operations and Assistant Coach. Earlier in his career, he was part of a historic run at Lincoln College of New England, helping the program reach the NJCAA National Tournament for the first time, win its first Region 21 and District 8 titles, and post its first 20-win season. Beyond coaching, Lockhart also served as a student-athlete advisor, guiding academic success alongside athletic achievement.
As a player, Lockhart was a standout at the University of Pittsburgh, where he was a three-year starter, team captain, and key contributor under legendary coach Ben Howland from 1996–2000. He went on to a professional career in France, starring for Denain Voltaire, where he led the team in scoring each season and helped advance to the French Cup in 2003.
A Bronx, New York native, Lockhart built his foundation at Mount Saint Michael Academy, where he remains the school’s all-time leading scorer. He won a state championship in 1995, was named All-City, All-State, and ranked among the nation’s Top 50 high school players. Basketball excellence runs deep in the Lockhart family. His father, Thomas Lockhart, starred at Manhattan College, was drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks in the 1976 NBA Draft, and played professionally overseas for two decades.
Coach Lockhart was born in Fribourg, Switzerland, and now resides in Queens, New York, with his two daughters, Bronx and Aiyanah. He continues to build a culture of competitiveness, accountability, and opportunity at LaGuardia, shaping the Red Hawks into a program known for development, achievement, and winning with character.
Coach Shareika Parry
Head Coach, Women’s Basketball
Coach Shareika Parry is entering her fourth season as Head Coach of the LaGuardia Red Hawks Women’s Basketball program. With years of coaching experience and a proven record of building successful teams from the ground up, Coach Parry is a true leader on and off the court. She founded her first women’s basketball team at the Harlem Children’s Zone and is no stranger to developing programs from scratch.
As a former CUNY student-athlete, she appeared in the National Tournament and won a CUNY Championship, both experiences that fuel her dedication to mentoring the next generation. Coach Parry emphasizes fundamentals, accountability, confidence, and teamwork, while ensuring her athletes thrive academically and personally. Her goal is to prepare student-athletes for success both on the court and in life.
Coach Charles ‘Keith’ Young
Head Coach, Women’s Volleyball
Coach Charles “Keith” Young brings decades of coaching experience to the LaGuardia Women’s Volleyball program. He began coaching girls’ basketball in 1999 at Bedford Academy High School and added volleyball in 2001. He also co-founded and coached with Mika Sports, a youth sports organization where he continues to mentor young athletes.
Coach Keith returned to high school coaching in 2022 at Bella Charter School and became Head Coach of LaGuardia Women’s Volleyball in 2023. Known for his dedication and leadership, he emphasizes skill development, teamwork, and building champions both on and off the court. His goal is to guide LaGuardia to a championship while fostering strong, disciplined athletes.
