The LGBTQIA Safe Zone Hub is an open, inclusive and safe space dedicated to improving the environment for students, faculty and staff at LaGuardia. We work toward educating the College community about sexuality and gender through events, activities, conversations and support services. Our mission is to spread awareness about LGBTQ+ issues while celebrating our identities and experiences. Whether you identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, questioning or an ally, you’re welcome here. This is a place to be yourself.
Support circles bring together students with similar concerns to connect and explore issues with guidance from peers and/or group facilitators. We invite you to join a virtual support circle based on your interests. View the schedule and topics below, then sign up here.
Take advantage of our LGBTQ+ library. We provide a wide variety of books, including introductions to different sexualities, intersectional texts and LGBTQ+ narratives. Stop by to find out more about polyamory, asexuality, bisexuality, black and brown experiences and more! You can read books here in our space or borrow them to take home and return later.
We can provide referrals for a number of issues, including scholarship information, health services, legal assistance and domestic violence. If you need someone to talk to on campus, the Wellness Center offers a variety of counseling services, including a group specifically for LGBTQ+ students. Find out more.
Room MB-10 may be the LGBTQ+ hub, but Safe Zones can be found all around campus. Safe Zones are individuals and/or spaces where students, staff and faculty can feel safe and accepted as their most authentic selves. You can confidently reach out to any of the individuals/allies listed below and know that they are open to talk about and provide support for LGBTQ+ individuals and identities.
