LaGuardia Assessment and Care Team (LaGuardia ACTs)

Identify. Report. Support. Helping students starts with you.

LaGuardia Assessment and Care Team (LaGuardia ACTs) identifies, investigates, assesses, refers, monitors, and takes action in response to behaviors exhibited by LaGuardia Community College students that may pose a threat to the campus community. The team’s primary goal is to provide threat assessments and early intervention for reported students before a crisis arises on the campus. These students may display moderate to elevated levels of distress, disruption, or poorly modulated emotional responses. We may recommend psychological assessment, medical leave, and/or withdrawal to the student, when necessary, pursuant to CUNY’s Medical Withdrawal and Re-Entry Policy and Procedures. Anyone who is concerned about a student and their behavior can complete a LaGuardia ACTs Information Form including students, family & friends, faculty and staff, and other members of the campus community.

LaGuardia ACTs consists of key administrators representing diverse areas of the college. We serve as a screening and support committee, where our primary role is to review reports of student behavior that may appear concerning. Whether unusual, erratic, or potentially harmful student behaviors, we will coordinate an appropriate response focused on safety and well-being. In addition to addressing these issues, we help the LaGuardia community recognize types of crises and step in as needed.

We serve as the primary point of contact for reporting concerning student conduct, provide consultation to those supporting students in distress, and identify behavioral patterns to assess risk and guide interventions. LaGuardia ACTs connects students to appropriate campus and community resources, recommends disciplinary action when necessary, and monitors ongoing situations to help maintain a safe, healthy learning environment for all.

LaGuardia ACTs will assess all referrals and make recommendations for a coordinated approach. Such actions may range from a counseling or academic support referral to removing the student from the college community by means of the appropriate University processes.

When appropriate, LaGuardia ACTs will refer students, not deemed to be high risk, to campus resources and services that will enable them to remain in good standing at LaGuardia Community College.
