The LaGuardia Alumni Association is dedicated to empowering graduates through a strong network of support, resources, and opportunities. With a focus on career readiness, the Association offers guidance and tools to help alumni navigate the professional world with confidence. It also fosters a spirit of community by encouraging alumni to give back through volunteer efforts that support current students and college initiatives.

By staying connected—whether through attending events, mentoring, or taking advantage of free services—alumni can continue to grow personally and professionally while strengthening their lifelong bond with LaGuardia Community College.

LaGuardia has inspired thousands of students and alumni who thrive in New York City and world-wide. Students are finding success by taking advantage of a vast collection of support services and opportunities like LaGuardia CARES, Veterans Services, and Student Government Association, to name a few. Graduates enter the workforce or transfer to a four-year institution to graduate with their degree. Some of these graduates are making headlines and improving our world, in disciplines from the sciences to the arts, from sustainability to entrepreneurship, and every category in between. Together, our students and alumni share their stories to inspire and motivate.

Arthur Dukes

Arthur Dukes

Studied Business Administration; Pursuing a Bachelor’s at Bryant & Stratton College

As a member of the 2023-24 Red Hawks Men’s Basketball Team, Arthur was the NJCAA Division III's top scorer with a 30.9 average. After becoming homeless, Coach Jarrett Lockhart connected him with LaGuardia CARES, which helped him find housing. Arthur went on to be named the 2024 NJCAA Region XV and CUNYAC Community College Player of the Year. He’s now a junior at Bryant & Stratton College – Buffalo, where he has a scholarship to play on its USCAA Division I basketball team.

Psychology’24, Pursuing a Bachelor’s at New York University

Nadia, a first-generation student from Bangladesh, aspires to become a therapist or social worker. She values the support from LaGuardia’s ASAP Program, which provided her with an advisor, free MetroCards, and textbook assistance. Through a virtual exchange with The American University of Cairo, Nadia explored global issues. She gained work experience via LaGuardia’s Summer Youth Employment Program. She is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in applied psychology at NYU.

Owner of Senbird Tea; Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses (10KSB), January 2023 Cohort

Sho, the son of Japanese immigrants, joined the 10KSB program at LaGuardia in January 2023, seeking guidance on navigating the complex challenges of running a mission-driven business. Since completing the program in May 2023, Senbird Tea has doubled in revenue, according to Sho, who says, “my experience with 10KSB at LaGuardia was transformative. It equipped me with the tools and confidence I needed to think strategically and act decisively as a leader.”

Environmental Science-Sustainable Urban Agriculture Major; Graduating in June 2025

Starting in fall 2025, Snigdha will transfer to Cornell University to pursue a bachelor's in Agricultural Sciences. She credits LaGuardia for giving her the tools to cultivate a career as an agricultural researcher. “We visit botanical gardens, get hands-on experience with urban farming, and opportunities to do research with professors,” says Snigdha, who aims to study soil and plant productivity. “Soil is the most vital resource we have,” she adds.

Alumni Association

The F.H. LaGuardia Community College Alumni Association has been a vital part of the College since November 1977. It is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to encourage and cultivate quality education, social activity, and good fellowship among the graduates of LaGuardia Community College, and to assist and promote the interests of the College. The association’ support comes through membership dues and donations as well as varied fundraising efforts.

Mr. Pappas has been a part of the LaGuardia family for many years now, graduating from Middle College High School in 1995 and receiving his Associate in Arts degree in 1998. Since then, he has remained a part of LaGuardia’s community as a staff member, working in several areas, including the Speech Center, Enrollment Management & Student Development, Admissions, and the Student Information Center. He currently works as a CUNY Office Assistant in the Department of Mathematics, Engineering & Computer Science. Mr. Pappas also represents the Alumni Association in the College Senate.

While attending LaGuardia, Mr. Pappas was involved in many activities throughout the campus. “My heart has always been with LaGuardia”, as a member of the Student Government Association and various campus-wide committees his work included working on the Middle States visit and various Search Committees. During his term in SGA, he participated in many worthwhile activities, including the establishment of the Student Lounge and the Raymond C. Bowen Scholarships, named after a former LaGuardia College President. As a student, he served on the College Senate for two years, becoming the first-ever student Vice Chair, and was a founding member of the LaGuardia Acting Company and the Center for Leadership. He became highly involved in the various student clubs & organizations on campus, including serving as the 1st Student Chair of the Student Advisory Committee(SAC). Throughout this involvement, Mr. Pappas found the time to volunteer with the College Bound program and other community service groups. His service to the Community continues today as he is currently Vice President of the East River Kiwanis Club and a Board member of the Astoria/LIC Kiwanis Club also serving as advisor to a local, K-Kids, Key Club and Circle K International club.
