Office of Institutional Research and Analysis Publishes LaGuardia’s Institutional Profile Report

LONG ISLAND CITY, NY (August 29, 2023) — LaGuardia Community College/CUNY welcomes a diverse group of students to explore academic programs and career development opportunities in a learning environment offering a wealth of support services to help students succeed. As an institution, LaGuardia is among the most affordable and innovative in the state of New York.

LaGuardia’s Office of Institutional Research and Analysis (OIRA) recently published LaGuardia’s Institutional Profile 2023, available online, which takes a closer look at many factors of the college, including enrollment, academic programs, student demographics, and student retention, and more. The publication provides data driven content offering trends and strategic insight into the college and its community.

Dr. Nava Lerer, Dean for Institutional Effectiveness, says the college’s profile has been produced since 2004, and offers imperative information about LaGuardia.

“The Institutional Profile offers standardized information on the College, mainly for the Fall semesters,” Dr. Lerer said. “The information includes demographic characteristics, enrollment information, majors, and academic performance – overall, entering students, degree awarded and retention, graduation, and transfer. In addition, in order provide a more comprehensive information of the College, other sections focusing on our faculty and staff, financial aid the Adult Continuing Education Division, library, finance, and grants were created. OIRA works in collaboration with other offices to produce the additional data.”

Dr. Lerer said readers can learn about LaGuardia’s student demographics and related trends. She adds some of the data included is related to the impacts from the COVID pandemic and shifts in the local and national economies.

“Pages viii and ix provide a five year at a glance information – the overall number of credit students dropped by 32% from Fall 2018 to Fall 2022, and the number of graduates dropped by 26%,” Dr. Lerer said. “There is a similar distribution of gender and race/ethnicity, close to 70% of our student reside in Queens, and 73% of the 2022 student received financial aid compared to 59% in Fall 2018. While similar proportions of the students are international (7%), the proportion of students who are foreign born dropped by 8 percentage points.”

Institutional Profiles from the last six years are available on LaGuardia’s OIRA website. The website also offers dashboards that can be examined by program and demographic information. Dr. Lerer said, while the institutional profile provides a wealth of information the OIRA staff is available to assist with analysis and further exploration of other college-wide data.
