Welcome to Fall Semester 2023!

Dear LaGuardia Faculty and Staff,

Welcome to the start of the 2023-24 Academic Year! I hope your summer provided abundant opportunities to relax, reconnect, and recharge.

LaGuardia Community College celebrates our diverse community – one that reflects the great city of New York and the vibrant borough of Queens. Thank you for all you do to educate and support our students.

It is an exciting time to be on campus. There are many updates and announcements to share as we begin the Fall Semester. Here are just a few:

  • Our facilities team has been working hard to renovate various areas in our buildings, including the main entrance of the E-building. I want to thank our buildings and grounds team for continuing to keep our campus clean and safe. Please let us know how we can continue to make our campus a welcoming and supportive environment for all.
  • This year, we welcome twenty new lecturers and associate professors in the areas of English, Health Sciences, Mathematics, Engineering and Computer Science, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences. These new colleagues will share their unique expertise and experience as they guide and support students through their academic programs.
  • The Red Hawks are back for a new athletics season with Men’s Soccer, Women’s and Men’s Basketball, and Men’s and Women’s Cross Country. I invite you to attend and cheer at this year’s games and meets. Visit the Athletics Program website to get details for upcoming matches!
  • Our mascot needs a name! You can cast your VOTE HERE to select one of the following gender-neutral names: Red, Rebel, Remy, or Rocket; or you can suggest another “R” name. The winner will be announced in the “Campus Update” newsletter on October 4th.

There are many events scheduled throughout the semester; you can learn more about them by visiting the Campus Calendars section of our newly upgraded college website. Some of the upcoming events include performances and concerts in the LaGuardia Performing Arts Center, and please don’t forget the LaGuardia Community 5K Run on Saturday, October 14.

With all my best wishes for a wonderful Fall Semester!

Sincerely,

Kenneth Adams
President
