In 1991, Dromm was a fourth-grade teacher when the New York City Board of Education created the Children of the Rainbow Curriculum—a guide for first-grade teachers designed to promote diversity and inclusivity in the classroom. Advocates praised the curriculum for helping students of all backgrounds see themselves reflected in their education, while critics objected to its inclusion of same-sex families. Dr. Petrus is the curator of the digital exhibit First Grade Culture Wars, which explores the controversy surrounding the curriculum. No RSVP required.
