THEME: 50 Years of Innovation, Excellence, & Ingenuity: Building a Bright Future Together
COVID-19 has reshaped the ways we think about our health care, education, political, and economical institutions. In March of 2020, we had to quickly pivot our focus, resources, and energy on providing teaching, services, and support in a virtual environment. During this unprecedented time, we have experienced the continued surge in social injustices in our BIPOC communities, violence towards our AAPI communities, and the continued effects of the global pandemic (COVID-19). This “new” way of operating as an institution in higher education has revealed the strength and resiliency of LaGuardia (#laguardiastrong). As we faced a myriad of challenges during the transition, we have consistently worked hard collectively as a college to ensure student access, engagement, success.
On behalf of the Fall 2021 Opening Sessions committee, we are pleased to announce that this year’s Opening session will be a virtual event held on Thursday, September 2, 2021. Building on the success of the 2020 Fall Opening Sessions, the college will continue to celebrate the college’s 50th anniversary of being a leader in public education. In addition, we would like to present an opportunity for faculty and staff to engage in a meaningful dialogue of community exploration on pedagogical best practices, evidence-based practices on teaching and learning, cutting-edge ideas, and action plans that have been reflected in our 50 years of innovation, excellence, and ingenuity as we build a future for our community, students, faculty, and staff.
