LaGuardia Performing Arts Center to Feature the Sounds of Salsa and Dance Moves from Mexico in Productions This November

LONG ISLAND CITY, NY (October 30, 2023)—The LaGuardia Performing Arts Center (LPAC) at LaGuardia Community College/CUNY, invites you to celebrate Latin Heritage with performances featuring salsa and dance this November.

Mexican Choreographers On the Move, an intergenerational gathering of five Mexican choreographers hailing from New York City, Mérida, and Mexico City, will be held on Friday, November 17, 7–8:30 p.m. in LPAC’s Little Theater. Choreographers Lourdes Luna, Geraldine Cardiel, Argelia Arreola, and Erick Montes will be performing their own work. A Limón Technique Master Class will be taught by Geraldine Cardiel, one of the choreographers performing during the Mexican Choreographers on the Move event. The Limón technique is a style of contemporary dance developed by Mexican-born choreographer and dancer José Limón (1908–1972). The Master Class is free and open to the public. A Live Salsa Concert will be hosted by radio personality J.I. Starr on Saturday, November 18, 7:30–11 p.m. in LPAC’s Mainstage Theater. The concert will feature Conjunto Imagen, salseros Frankie Morales, the Tropical Image Dancer Co., Vittico & Molly with Magia Dancers, DJ Broadway, and a 13-piece band, Latin chart-toppers Los Hermanos Moreno. This December, LPAC will once again host its holiday tradition, “The Nutcracker and Visit to Santa’s Toyland,” featuring the renowned Joffrey Ballet School performing “The Nutcracker” geared towards an audience of young children and families (run time: one hour). After the performance, children will have the opportunity to meet Santa in his Winter Toyland, decorated by LPAC’s professional theater production team. The event will be held on Sunday, December 17, 3–6 p.m. Reserve your tickets today.
