LaGuardia Performing Arts Center Hosts Debut Performance from Music Lab Residency

LONG ISLAND CITY, NY (January 29, 2025) — The LaGuardia Performing Arts Center (LPAC) at LaGuardia Community College/CUNY presents Paradigm Showcase: The Black Effect 2 (TBE2), highlighting the work of black artists. The showcase blends hip hop, urban dance, African music, reggae, pop music, and poetry. It marks the inaugural performance from Music Lab, LPAC’s new residency program for Queens-based musicians. The Paradigm Showcase is scheduled for Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at LPAC’s Little Theater, presented in collaboration with Pinilla Pro.

Tickets are $22 in advance for general admission and $30 at the door. Reserve tickets here.

“LPAC is where new voices take center stage. We are proud to be a launchpad for emerging theater artists and musicians, fostering creativity and dialogue within the community,” said Evelyn Lowmark, Interim Executive Director of LPAC. “Music Lab, our first-ever music performance residency program, supports Queens-based musicians in developing and showcasing their talents. It’s a celebration of the diverse cultural fabric of Queens and explores the connection between music and our community. We are excited to invite audiences to attend the Paradigm Showcase, the debut performance from Music Lab.”

Paradigm Showcase: The Black Effect 2 (TBE2) is directed by Sheen Jamaal and hosted by DJ Sweat The Gentleman. The event features a diverse roster of established and emerging artists from Queens and across the country, blending hip hop, urban dance, African music, reggae, pop music, and poetry. Performances include Nay Tune, Afro Afrique, Incredibul Tut, Flexx, Dope Rebels, Tae Soul, Soular Dance Collective, Jalena Findley, Octavian Canty, Mel J, Donny Rice, Nikki Rose Creations, Fanta Ballo, Dwasii, Michael Charles, AJ Warrington, Lex Unapologetically, Himbo, Gen X The Company, Tha Artist Productions, Day Productions, and Sheen Jamaal.

Music Lab celebrates and enhances the rich and dynamic music scene in Queens, giving local artists a platform to showcase their talents, hone their craft, and connect with the wider music industry and community through dedicated rehearsals and performances at LPAC. Full-day rehearsals and performance space at LPAC support participants in realizing their creative visions, while fostering connections with the industry and building community ties.
