Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 7:30PM, on LPAC’s Mainstage Theater
LONG ISLAND CITY, NY (January 29, 2025) — The LaGuardia Performing Arts Center (LPAC) at LaGuardia Community College/CUNY is proud to present Entre Líneas, a debut independent production by Afro-Dominican Flamenco artist Laura Peralta. Her performance, part of the CUNY Dance Initiative, will take place on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. on LPAC’s Mainstage Theater.
Tickets are $25 for general admission, $20 for faculty and staff (use code FACULTY), and $15 for students (use code STUDENT). Reserve tickets today.
In Entre Líneas, Peralta dissects the symbolic elements of Flamenco—its dress, shawl, guitar, rhythm, and gender archetypes—to explore the intricate tension between tradition and self-expression. By reinterpreting Flamenco’s artistic conventions, she reveals their duality: both limiting and liberating.
“Don’t miss the opportunity to witness Laura Peralta’s electrifying debut in Entre Líneas,” said Handan Ozbilgin, LPAC Artistic Director. “Experience an evening of masterful Flamenco, where tradition meets contemporary artistry in a stunning exploration of identity and expression.”
Peralta, a dynamic Flamenco dancer, performer, and educator from New York City with Afro-Dominican roots, has graced prestigious venues, including Lincoln Center, Jacob’s Pillow, BAM Fisher Hall, the Joyce Theater, and Kaatsbaan Cultural Center. She has performed with premier Flamenco companies, including Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana, Soledad Barrio y Noche Flamenca, A Palo Seco Flamenco, Pasión y Arte, Nélida Tirado Flamenco, and Isaac Tovar Compañia Flamenca. Her work has been featured in productions such as Carmen at Lincoln Center and Amor Brujo alongside choreographer Isaac Tovar and cantaora Esperanza Fernandez.
Peralta has performed internationally alongside acclaimed artists and taught masterclasses at prominent dance institutions across the U.S. Her collaborative projects have been showcased at the Queensborough Dance Festival. She has received multiple commissions from Flamenco Vivo, including the 2021 dance film 6hilos, and was featured in the critically acclaimed film De Lo Mio, currently streaming on Criterion Collection. Her deep-rooted connection to Flamenco is complemented by her diverse artistic background, having studied music at Manhattan School of Music and dance under revered Flamenco masters in Seville, Spain.
Peralta developed Entre Líneas during Mare Nostrum Elements’ Emerging Choreographer Series 2024.
Her residency and performance at LPAC are supported by the CUNY Dance Initiative (CDI), a program designed to integrate New York City’s dance sector with the CUNY public university system. CDI is led by The Kupferberg Center for the Arts at Queens College and receives major support from The Mertz Gilmore Foundation, Howard Gilman Foundation, SHS Foundation, Rockefeller Brothers Fund’s Charles E. Culpeper Arts & Culture program, and the Harkness Foundation for Dance.
