LaGuardia Community College Celebrates 2,031 Graduates at 53rd Commencement

WHAT: LaGuardia Community College/CUNY will celebrate the achievements of the Class of 2025—2,031 graduates earning associate degrees and certificates—at its 53rd Commencement Ceremony. The event will take place outdoors on the Queens College Quad, rain or shine. Click here for event program.

Distinguished Guests and Speakers:
- Henry T. Berger, Trustee, CUNY Board of Trustees
- The Honorable Donovan Richards, Queens Borough President
- Senator Kristen Gonzalez, NYS Senate, 59th District
- Assembly Member Claire Valdez, NYS Assembly, 37th District
- Denise B. Maybank, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, CUNY
- Reine T. Sarmiento, Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management, CUNY
Student Speakers – Class of 2025 Representatives:
- Nancy Avila, 46, Colombian immigrant, mother of four, and aspiring educator, graduating with an A.A. in Early Childhood Education. Nancy began her journey in LaGuardia’s ESOL Civics Program and is now pursuing a B.A. in Bilingual Studies at York College.
- Jonathan Machado, 33, former chef turned scientist, graduating with an A.S. in Biotechnology. A NIH Bridges Scholar and Columbia University intern, Jonathan will pursue a B.S. in Bioinformatics at Hunter College this fall.
Special Performance:
- The LaGuardia Vocal Ensemble will perform The Star-Spangled Banner, directed by Professor Lisa DeSpain, BMus, MMus.
