This major focuses on Data science, a field of study and practice that’s focused on obtaining insights from data, and it is the result of a merger between two fields: statistics and computer science. Practitioners of data science use programming skills, statistics knowledge, and machine learning techniques to mine large data sets for patterns that can be used to analyze the past or even predict the future.

What makes this major unique?
The Applied Math option is the only major at LaGuardia that focuses on the intersection of pure mathematics and computer and data science. Students will take advanced mathematics courses and computer science and programming courses.
