LAGUARDIA COMMUNITY COLLEGE NURSING PROGRAM AWARDED TOP RANKING IN NEW YORK STATE

LONG ISLAND CITY, NY (October 27, 2022) — The LaGuardia Community College/CUNY Nursing Program is ranked #1 among New York State’s 2023 Best RN Programs by RegisteredNursing.org. According to the ranking, LaGuardia’s Nursing Program graduates “leave the program with the ability to communicate, provide quality nursing care, educate patients, and practice legally and ethically.”

“Earning the top ranking among New York State Registered Nursing (RN) programs is a testament to our dedicated Nursing Program faculty and staff. The global pandemic showed us how important nurses and other frontline workers are to our community’s health—often going to extraordinary lengths to help others,” said Kenneth Adams, President of LaGuardia Community College. “Since our Nursing Program started in 1985, LaGuardia has graduated nearly 3,000 nursing professionals. Every year, RegisteredNursing.org, a resource for those interested in studying nursing or learning about nursing careers, ranks the top 20 nursing schools out of the 103 RN programs in New York State. Programs reviewed include schools that offer an Associate in Nursing (ADN/ASN), BSN, or Direct-Entry MSN Degree. A score is generated for each program based on several factors representing how well the program supports students towards licensure and beyond, including current and historical first-time NCLEX-RN “pass rates,” meaning the percentage of graduates who pass the national licensure exam on their first try.

LaGuardia’s Nursing Program has an enviable record of NCLEX-RN pass-rates. The most recent cohort achieved a 93% first-time pass-rate, surpassing many New York City two-year and four-year colleges.

LaGuardia’s Nursing Program offers courses covering approximately 75 different specialties in nursing. Nurses are engaged in direct client care, administration, education, and/or research. Nurses in advanced practice are prepared to assume greater autonomy in areas such as primary care, clinical specialties, anesthesia and midwifery.
