The last day of tutoring is 2/22, the last day of finals; we
will be closed 2/12 and 2/19.
The Writing Center offers free professional tutoring on any aspect of any phase of any kind of writing, including:
For all this and more, for any academic course or other writing purpose, such as personal statements and essays for scholarships and transfer applications, the Writing Center offers friendly, skilled, trained professional tutors. The Writing Center is open to all LaGuardia students who have begun taking English courses, whether or not they are now taking an English course. Students taking content area courses such as social sciences, humanities, health services, and business administration make up almost half of the students who use the Writing Center each term!
Getting a tutoring session at the Writing Center is simple and easy.
The Writing Center is a combination walk-in and appointment system. Each period a limited number of sessions are available simply by arriving at the Writing Center, in sunny B 200, a few minutes before the beginning of any LaGuardia class period, for instance ten or fifteen minutes before 10:30 for tutoring in the 10:30 period. However, there is no guarantee of a walk-in session because the Writing Center is very popular, and spaces fill up fast. So students are welcome to come in any time, not just the beginning of a period, to make same-day appointments for any period (except 4:30 – drop-in only). If a student does arrive before the beginning of a period and finds that the Writing Center is already full, we will offer an appointment for the next period he/she has free within the next 24 hours. We want to make sure that students get a tutoring session as soon as possible!
Bring the assignment.
If the session involves a paper for a class, the actual written assignment from the professor is very important to the effectiveness of the session. If the teacher has already seen a draft of the paper, the teacher’s suggestions for revision are also very important.
