LaGuardia Community College to Host Inaugural Community Run
on Saturday, October 22nd
LONG ISLAND CITY, NY– LaGuardia Community College/CUNY invites runners and walkers of all levels to participate in the LaGuardia Community Run (5K), scheduled on Saturday, October 22nd in Long Island City. Registration is open to participants ages 7 and older.
“This event is an opportunity to engage with members of our surrounding community by offering activities to promote health, civic engagement and foster relationships with residents of Long Island City and other New Yorkers,” said LaGuardia Community College President Kenneth Adams.
Cost for participating in the run/walk is $25 for non-LaGuardia students and $10 for LaGuardia students and children ages 7–17. Registration fee includes a race T-shirt, bib, and light refreshments.
Participating runners and walkers will follow a 5K route from the LaGuardia Community College campus through Long Island City, to Hunters Point South on the East River Waterfront, and back to LaGuardia. Start/finish is in the LaGuardia Community College Parking Lot (no vehicles will be allowed in the lot on race day)—on 47th Avenue and 29th Street in Long Island City, Queens. The community run will include an activities plaza featuring refreshments, face painting, and other fun activities. Sponsors and small businesses will have tables showcasing their products and services. The post-event celebration and entertainment is free and open to the public.
Proceeds will support LaGuardia’s student as scholarships, grants, emergency funds and more, through the LaGuardia Community College Foundation.
On race day, registration will open at 7 a.m. The race begins at 7:45 a.m. for participants with disabilities and at 8 a.m. for all other participants.
The top three male and female finishers overall will receive medals along with the top three finishers in the following age categories: 12 & under, 13-15, 16-19, 20-24,25-29,30-34,35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 +.
Digital certificates and photos will be available to all participants upon completion through race co-sponsor EliteFeats.
Children under the age of 6 are not permitted in the race but are welcome to enjoy the activities plaza (accompanied by a parent or guardian). Strollers, bicycles, scooters, skateboards, and pets are not permitted.
