LaGuardia Community College Secures $1.4 Million Perkins V Grant for FY 2026
LONG ISLAND CITY, NY (October 15, 2025) — LaGuardia Community College/CUNY announced today that it has received a $1.4 million grant through the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act (Perkins V). The grant, administered by the New York State Education Department, will provide robust academic and career development support for approximately 8,800 students enrolled in career and technical education (CTE) programs at LaGuardia.
This critical funding will boost tutoring and accessibility services for students with disabilities, provide professional development opportunities for CTE faculty, improve retention rates for first-year students, increase career‑exploration opportunities for students through new digital tools, strengthen employer partnerships, and improve completion rates of students enrolled in LaGuardia’s healthcare programs.
“Perkins V aligns perfectly with our mission to provide equitable, workforce‑ready education,” said Sunil Gupta, Vice President of Adult and Continuing Education and Perkins Grant Officer. “These investments will lift outcomes for historically underserved students and prepare graduates for New York’s high‑growth sectors.”
LaGuardia offers 57 CTE programs across the college, including Nursing, Pharmacy Technician, Computer Technology, New Media Technology, Film & Television, and Criminal Justice. The college emphasizes hands‑on learning through state‑of‑the‑art labs, simulation centers, and extensive work‑based learning opportunities such as internships, apprenticeships, and the SOAR experiential‑learning program, which connects students with over 70 local employers.
