LaGuardia Community College Celebrates Women’s and Men’s Basketball Team Achievements

LONG ISLAND CITY, NY (March 6, 2026) — LaGuardia Community College/CUNY is celebrating LaGuardia Women’s and Men’s Basketball for reaching CUNY Playoffs & Regional Quarterfinals for the first time since 2017.

“So much hard work and trust has gone into this season, especially having new leadership with higher expectations,” said Marquee Poole, Director of Athletics. “I am very proud of the work I am proud and excited to recognize our LaGuardia Athletics Men’s and Women’s Basketball Teams for an outstanding season!”

The Men’s Basketball team finished their season with 8-18 overall. The Women’s Basketball team finished the season with 6-12 overall. Both teams advanced to the CUNY Playoffs and reached the first round of the NJCAA Region 15 Tournament (Quarterfinals).

Poole said this is something that has not been accomplished since 2016 and 2017.

“This is a major achievement for our program and for our college community,” Poole said. “No matter who we played, our student athletes competed with heart, toughness, and pride. They persevered through injuries and even played shorthanded at times. Both teams faced challenges head on, and they never made excuses. They showed what it means to represent LaGuardia the right way.”

Poole said LaGuardia’s coaches stepped up to the challenge and “put the entire region on notice.”

Their leadership, preparation, and belief in our players helped elevate this program back to championship level competition,” Poole said.
