Free Fall 2025 Events on the LaGuardia Community Greenway

LONG ISLAND CITY, NY (October 14, 2025) — LaGuardia Community College/CUNY invites the Long Island City and greater New York City community to two free outdoor events this October. Open to the public and welcoming all ages, the celebrations will take place on the LaGuardia Community Greenway, a pedestrian plaza on 29th Street between Skillman and 47th Avenues. The events aim to bring together LaGuardia students, faculty, staff, and neighbors in celebration, joy, and cultural pride—showcasing the creativity and spirit of the college’s diverse community while fostering meaningful connections.

Fall Greenway events are presented by Casa de las Américas, Crear Futuros, and LaGuardia Performing Arts Center (LPAC). For more information, contact Casa de las Américas at casa@lagcc.cuny.edu. Details of the events include:

LaGuardia’s Casa de las Américas will host its 4th Annual Día de Muertos Celebration at its office in M-144 of LaGuardia’s M-Building, 31-10 Thomson Ave. The event will begin with the unveiling of ofrenda—altars honoring deceased loved ones—highlighting traditions from various countries. Attendees will enjoy pan de Muertos, a Mexican sweet bread often served on Día de Muertos, and hot chocolate. Following the Día De Muertos gathering, Halloween festivities will continue at the LaGuardia Community Greenway with live music, interactive performances, and more. Attendees are encouraged to wear their best Halloween costumes. This event is hosted in partnership with NYC DOT and its Trick-or-Streets initiative.

About the LaGuardia Community Greenway

The LaGuardia Community Greenway is an outdoor space where the community and LaGuardia’s 33,000 students, staff and faculty gather and engage. Conceptualized in 2022 by LaGuardia students, the Greenway was developed in partnership with New York City’s Open Streets program and Department of Transportation. The Greenway is home to NYC’s largest street mural, titled Keep It Movin’!!, designed by LaGuardia Fine Arts student Fernanda Contreras. The mural celebrates NYC’s walkability and the five subway lines—7, G, E, F, and R/N/W—that run through Long Island City.

Campus groups or community groups who wish to table and participate in Greenway events should contact Nayelli Valencia Turrent, Chief of Staff, at nvalenciaturrent@lagcc.cuny.edu.
