Food, Winter Clothing, and Toiletry Items Sought for LaGuardia CARES
Support LaGuardia Community College Students This Holiday Season
LONG ISLAND CITY, NY (November 25, 2024) — Donations of non-perishable food, winter clothing, and toiletries, are sought by LaGuardia CARES, a student support office that runs the pantry at LaGuardia Community College/CUNY. The pantry provides food and other essentials for students and their immediate family members.
Dr. Rhonda Mouton, Director of LaGuardia CARES, reports that demand for LaGuardia CARES peaks during the holidays. “During school breaks, our students’ need for the pantry is highest, especially among our student-parents,” said Dr. Mouton. “This year, our greatest need is for toiletries.”
Items needed by LaGuardia students this holiday season include:
- Non-perishable food—Canned goods (not expired) like pasta sauce, vegetables, and beans, as well as pasta and other food items that do not require refrigeration.
- Toiletries—Personal care items (new, not expired, and in original packaging), including shampoo & conditioner, feminine hygiene products, soap and body wash, toothpaste, toothbrushes, dental floss, and deodorant.
- Winter Coats, Clothing and Footwear Drive—New and gently used winter coats, clothing, and footwear.
For those who prefer to make monetary donations, which can be made online, these funds support emergency funds to help students pay back rent, medical bills, tuition fees, and ease other financial burdens. The funds also support the purchase of food, clothing, toiletries, and other essentials to support LaGuardia students and their families.
Additional items sought year-round to support LaGuardia students include pet care items, household cleaning products, and child and infant care items.
Donations can be made at the LaGuardia CARES office at LaGuardia Community College, 29-10 Thomson Ave., C-235, Long Island City, NY 11101. The office is open Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.
To request help with sizable donations, or with vendor inquiries, contact LaGuardia CARES at (718) 482-5129 or laguardiacares@lagcc.cuny.edu.
