Skills You Will Learn
What makes this major unique?
If you listen to radio or streaming music, watch TV or movies or go to a live concert or the theatre, you are exposed to the world of Music Recording Technology. This is a major for students who love music and sound and are fascinated by the nuts and bolts of how it comes together.
Career Possibilities
Job titles and tasks vary. For example, audio and video equipment technicians use microphones, sound speakers, and soundboards to control the volume and quality of the music. Broadcast technicians use equipment such as transmitters and computer software to air radio and television programs. And sound engineering technicians use computer software to record, edit, and mix music.
Educational requirements for audio and video, lighting, and sound engineering technicians vary from a high school diploma to a college degree, depending on the position. Although not always required, a bachelor’s degree in fine and performing arts or a related field, such as communications technology can be helpful to increase skills and exposure.
Transfer Possibilities
This major is intended for students who wish to immediately enter the workforce. Associate of Applied Science degrees are still transferable, although less credits may transfer. Speak to an advisor for more information.
