Black Cinema Event

February 9 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Please join us in celebrating Black History Month. We will screen one film and one documentary each day. Light refreshments and fresh popcorn will be served.

February 9 Screenings:

  • The Six Triple Eight sheds light on the unsung heroes of World War II the all-Black, all-female 6888th Battalion. Directed by Tyler Perry, this compelling film celebrates resilience, sisterhood, and the importance of reclaiming forgotten stories.
  • 20 Feet from Stardom is the untold stories of incredibly talented backup singers, exploring how race, gender, and industry dynamics keep them from success, revealing that immense talent doesn’t always equal mainstream recognition.

February 10 Screenings:

  • Do the Right Thing explores complex themes of racial tension, inequality, prejudice, and police brutality, questioning what “doing the right thing” means amidst simmering ethnic conflicts (Black, Italian, Korean) in a diverse Brooklyn neighborhood.
  • Summer of Soul is the celebration, reclamation, and preservation of Black history, joy, and culture through the forgotten 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival, highlighting music as a powerful tool for community healing, and empowerment during a turbulent time.

Light refreshments will be served.
