4th Annual Día de Muertos Celebration

Join us for our 4th Annual Día de Muertos Celebration! Come in your best Halloween costume for our costume party, and be part of the special unveiling of our ofrenda displays, highlighting how Día de Muertos is celebrated across different countries.

We’ll also have pan de muertos and hot chocolate to share as we celebrate life, tradition, and community together. Don’t miss this vibrant and meaningful event!

Starting at 1 p.m., gather outside Casa de las Américas, Room M144, to join the procession to the Greenway, where Dia de los Muertos / Halloween Street Party will begin.

Costume Contest Guidelines:

Eligibility: All participants must register at the event check-in table in the Greenway/at the event to enter the contest.

Rules:

• Costumes must be family-friendly and appropriate for all ages.
• No dangerous or sharp objects as part of the costume.
• Costumes should not obstruct movement or visibility.
• No overly revealing costumes or offensive content.

Contest timing: Participants must be present at 1:45pm on the Greenway to participate. The contest/judging will begin at 2pm.

Pumpkin Carving Contest Guidelines:

To participate in the pumpkin carving contest, you must email Daniel Gomolka (DANIEL.GOMOLKA04@lagcc.cuny.edu) in the Events Department by Monday 10/27.

Rules:

• Pumpkin must be carved
• No offensive imagery or language
• Paint and other décor allowed
• No open flame inside the pumpkin (LED lights or battery-operated candles are allowed)
• Be Creative!

Note: The Events Department has a limited number of free pumpkins to provide contestants, and these can be picked up from the Events Office in E-405 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. anytime between now and Monday 10/27. The pumpkins will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis to contestants who have registered to participate.
