HR Update

Dear LaGuardia Community,

I am pleased to share some important news related to our Human Resources Department and our Office of Compliance and Diversity.

We are pleased to announce that Mary DiGangi will join LaGuardia as our new Executive Director of Human Resources on June 10. Mary is a human resources professional with more than twenty-five years of experience leading human resources teams in providing services and support to employees.

Reporting to Shahir Erfan, Senior Vice President for Administration and Finance, Mary will lead the college’s Human Resources Department in accordance with CUNY policies, procedures, and practices, and in compliance with applicable laws. Areas of responsibility for the Department include: payroll, benefits, time and leave, accommodations, human resources information systems, employee relations, professional development, recruitment, onboarding, EAP, and more.

Mary most recently served as the Vice President of Human Resources for the Metropolitan Jewish Health System (MJHS), one of New York’s largest not-for-profit healthcare systems. Mary earned an M.S. in Business Management and Leadership from the CUNY School for Professional Studies and a B.S. in Business Management from Brooklyn College.

Until Mary arrives, Human Resources inquiries may be sent to SVP Erfan, at serfan@lagcc.cuny. He can also be reached on Ext. 5500. You may also contact the Human Resources Department on Ext. 5075.

I would like to thank Marta Clark for serving as our Interim Executive Director of Human Resources. We wish Marta well in her future endeavors.

I also want to describe some important changes we are making in the Office of Compliance and Diversity regarding the position of Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) and Title IX Coordinator. You may recall that for many years these two roles were combined into one position at LaGuardia, a practice common in CUNY. Most recently, Craig Greene served in this dual role for us.

Given the responsibilities of LaGuardia’s Chief Diversity Officer, along with the demands of our obligation to thoroughly and expeditiously investigate allegations of Title XI violations, I believe these roles should be two separate positions. To that end, we recently commenced a search for a new Chief Diversity Officer. We will conduct a search for a Title IX Coordinator this summer. To support these key positions, we have a search under way for a Title IX Investigator, while Judi Anderson continues to serve as the Affirmative Action Specialist of the Office of Compliance and Diversity. The Office recently welcomed Anna Rafalovich replacing Judi as the Administrative Coordinator.

During this transition period, Sabine Rospide, Esq. is the college’s interim CDO/Title IX Coordinator. Please do not hesitate to contact Sabine if you believe you have been the victim of any form of discrimination or sexual misconduct or have witnessed such conduct by anyone in the LaGuardia community.

Please let me know if you have questions or concerns about any of these changes. I hope you will encourage individuals you know who may be interested in these positions to apply for them.

Thank you and best wishes for safe and enjoyable Memorial Day Weekend.

Kenneth Adams
President
