Hate Crimes

Dear College Community,

I want all of you to know that we are appalled by the acts of violence against the LGBTQIA community in Colorado Springs and the threats of violence against the Jewish community here in New York City.  The murder of five people at Club Q on Saturday night is a horrific hate crime, a dark stain on our country’s social fabric.  We are angry and frustrated that such an attack has happened again, and heart-broken over the tragic deaths of five innocent people.  Here in NYC, two men who intended to attack a Manhattan synagogue over the weekend were stopped by the NYPD.  It is chilling to imagine what could have happened were they not apprehended.  I wanted to take a moment to assure you that here at LaGuardia we will not tolerate any acts of violence or discrimination against anyone.  We want to ensure you that YOU MATTER; that you are supported and valued as a member of our campus community and that we will continue to work diligently to provide a safe and secure environment for all students, staff, faculty, and visitors.

If you have been affected in any way due to the recent events, please visit or contact the Wellness Center in C-249, by phone at 718-482-5471, or by email at WellnessCenter@lagcc.cuny.edu.

Thank you,

Kenneth Adams
President
