Dear LaGuardia Community,
This week we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., whose leadership in the Civil Rights Movement inspired justice, equality, and peace.
Dr. King said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?” Each year, people answer this question by coming together to serve their neighbors and communities – a fitting way to honor the memory of Dr. King. His vision of a “Beloved Community,” where all people are treated with dignity, remains a powerful example particularly in our work as a community college.
Pause to consider how we serve others, at LaGuardia and in our communities, now and throughout the year.
There are many resources available to learn about Dr. King’s life, work, and legacy. These include:
- National Education Association
- Civil Rights Teaching
- The Martin Luther King, Jr. Research and Education Institute at Stanford
- Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial
With hope for the future,
