October 9, 2025: The NYC Department of Transportation marked the kickoff of its annual Trick-or-Streets initiative on the brand-new 29th Street Plaza outside LaGuardia Community College in Long Island City—a 17,000-square-foot pedestrian space complete with tables, bike corrals and one of the largest asphalt murals in the city, designed by LaGuardia fine arts student Fernanda Contreras.

October 8, 2025: LaGuardia Community College was the venue that NYC transportation officials used to announce the fourth consecutive year of “Trick-or-Streets.” Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez spoke at the opening of a new pedestrian plaza at LaGuardia that provides 17,390 square feet of new pedestrian space in Long Island City, Queens. October 8, 2025: Nelson Ortiz, Director of the Apex Accelerator at LaGuardia Community College, has been honored with El Diario’s ‘El Awards 2025,’ which celebrates Hispanic and Latino men making impactful contributions to society. Through his work, Ortiz helps minority-, women-, and veteran-owned small businesses secure government contracts.
