Women in Politics: Advocacy, Public Service, and Leadership
The Women’s Center & LGBTQ+ Hub, The Political Science Program, and the Student Government Association (SGA) will host an event engaging elected officials and social movement activists who are women identifying, to explore timely social and political issues, and consider ways forward in an uncertain and pivotal moment in U.S. history. District 22 Council Member Tiffany Cabán will offer opening remarks, followed by a panel discussion with Rana Abdelhamid (Founder and Executive Director, Malikah), Bianey Garcia (TGNCIQ Justice Project and Organizer, Make the Road), Chanel Lopez (Deputy Director of LGBTQ+ Affairs for Governor Kathy Hochul). Panel discussion will be co-moderated by Professor Anja Vojvodic (Political Science program) and SGA President, Garrett Morgan Jr.
