    The Veterans Upward Bound Program at LaGuardia Community College is dedicated to providing services to low-income and first generation college-going veterans of all eras. Equip yourself with the skills necessary to enter and graduate from college and succeed.

    LaGuardia also offers services as well as opportunities to advocate on issues that impact veteran students and connect with other veterans through the Veterans Resource Center.

    Veterans Upward Bound is a free college-prep program funded by the U.S. Department of Education. It is designed to help veterans refresh their academic skills so they can enroll and succeed in postsecondary education.
    No, our classes are free for all qualifying veterans.
    To qualify you must meet the following eligibility requirements:
    • Must have a least 180 days (6 months) of active service with a discharge status other than dishonorable
    • Must be either low-income (based on family income and number of dependents) or potential first-generation college students (neither parent earned a four-year degree)
    No, we will help any qualified veteran, no matter what school he or she plans to attend.
    The Veterans Upward Bound Program offers an evening schedule of classes and activities. Each session is six weeks and runs Monday – Thursday, 5 – 9:00 p.m. For more information, please contact our office at (718) 482-5386.
    Classes are small and based on individualized academic needs. Tutoring is available to add to your learning experience. Program staff work as a team with instructors, tutors and peer mentors to provide you with on-going progress evaluation, feedback and support. Classes are non-credit and no grades are given. They are an opportunity for you to refresh and develop the academic skills required for success in college-level course work. Students who successfully complete the classes are awarded a Veterans Upward Bound certificate.
