  • You’ve made an excellent choice to join the LaGuardia community. This is the place where you have the opportunity to ask questions, push boundaries and demand more of yourself every day.

    As a newly-accepted student, you will experience a transition filled with excitement and challenges. Each step on your journey as a first year student is an important one which will help define your entire college career. We’re here to support you along the way with a rich array of activities and events that will enhance your academic success, personal development and help you navigate our campus resources.

  •  Smart Start-Enrollment Checklist

    Start the process of turning your dreams into a reality. Complete the brief steps below to keep the ball rolling to your first day of classes.


    Submit missing documents to the Office of Admissions in C-Building, Room C-102

    • Immunization - Measles, Mumps and Rubella records (You will not be able to register for classes without your immunization, submit form to Room MB-40)
    • High School Diploma 
    • ACT, SAT, regents scores to determine if you need to take a placement test (Freshman students only)
    • College Transcript for testing and credit evaluation (Transfer Students only)
    • Proof of U.S. Citizenship
    • Proof of New York State residency (If necessary)
    • Commitment deposit/commitment deposit waiver

    CUNYfirst account 

    CUNYfirst gives you access to your student records, financial aid award, testing info, tuition balance, and more.


    Prepare to ace your placement test

    This is your next big step in the enrollment process. Be on the lookout for a letter in the mail with a set date for your Placement Tests in Writing, Reading  and Math. It is important to take the placement tests as soon as possible so that you can register early for classes. Need a crash course? Try these Test Prep exercises

    Note: If your scores are not high enough for college-credit courses, you will need to strengthen your skills by taking developmental (remedial) course-work. This could take one or two semesters, and can affect your financial aid. Some students are not required to take a placement test. Learn more.


    Check your VIP page and email for your advising and registration appointment

    A few weeks after your placement test you will receive a message on VIP and an email invitation to an advising and registration session. Here you will meet with an advisor to discuss your major and advise you on courses to take during your first semester.

    Get ahead of the game and prepare to meet with your advisor.

    • Review your major’s requirements.
    • Having second thoughts about your selected major?
      -  Explore additional major options and possible careers that best fit your interest.
      -  You can also change your major. Submit the change of major form to the Admissions office (room C-102).
    • Come with questions for your advisor.
    • Bring your immunization records. You will not be able to register without them.
    • Arrive on time. Check-in begins 30 minutes prior to your appointment. Plan to spend at least two hours at your session.
    • Bring a valid ID with you.

    On-Campus Check-in Session

    Come in to meet with LaGuardia staff to receive personalized updates about your enrollment status. You will also be introduced to key student services that will support you on your path and help you perform at your best while achieving your personal and academic goals. Check out available dates and reserve your spot.


    Online Advising Chat Session

    Let's chat! We'll help you gain a better understanding of your major and requirements needed to graduate. If you're unsure about what you want to study, you'll be able to chat with LaGuardia, faculty and staff online to explore majors and career options that best fit your interests. Waiting to change your major can impact your credits, financial aid and the length of time to complete your degree so let’s get it right the first time around. You will also receive personalized updates about your enrollment status. Check out available dates and reserve your spot.
