SERVICES

Train & Earn at LaGuardia is a career pathways program designed for youth aged 16–24 who are out of school and unemployed. Job training and employment services provide the support you need to build a successful career within the healthcare sector.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Age 16 – 24
  • Not attending school
  • Not working
  • Must meet income and other eligibility criteria
  • New York City resident
  • Legally able to work in the U.S.

  1. 16-24 years old at eligibility determination
  2. Not attending or enrolled in secondary or for-credit postsecondary school at eligibility determination
  3.  At least one of the following apply:
    • Youth who
      • received High School Diploma/equivalent
      • is low-income
      • is deficient in Basic Literacy Skills or is an English language learner
    • Required to attend school but has not attended for at least the most recent complete school year’s calendar quarter
    • Homeless or runaway
    • In foster care or aged out of foster care
    • Pregnant/parenting
    • Subject to the juvenile or adult justice system
    • Has a disability
    • Requires additional assistance to complete an educational program, or to secure and hold employment (must also meet low-income definition)

       

      Low Income Definition:

      1. Family income at or below 100% of poverty line or 70% lower living standard  
      2. Meets one of the following criteria
        • Receives or is a member of a family that receives (currently or in the past six months) one of the following: TANF, SNAP, SSI or other public assistance
        • Foster child
        • Homeless
        • Dropout 
        • Not attending school but NOT a dropout 
        • Offender 
        • Youth parent 
        • Disabled 
        • Lives in a high poverty census tract

  4. Work Status: Authorized to work in U.S
  5. Selective Service: If male, Selective Service Registration required

FAQs

Train & Earn is a career pathways program designed for young adults, between 16 and 24 years old, who are not currently in school or employed.

To qualify for Train & Earn at LaGuardia, you must be a New York City resident, not currently working or attending school, and meet specific criteria like low income, recent school dropout, or involvement with the child welfare system. (See Requirements/Train & Earn Eligibility)

Train & Earn at LaGuardia provides comprehensive job training and employment services within the healthcare sector as well as job readiness skills such as resume writing, interview preparation, and basic computer skills

Participants typically receive an hourly wage for the work hours they complete during their training.
