Film Production How to Apply

HOW TO APPLY

  • Attend an information session
    • You will be given a walkthrough of the assessment and application process
    • You will have the opportunity to ask questions
  • Submit a program application and scholarship application by July 9, 2024
  • Complete an online assessment by July 22, 2024
  • Selected applicants will then be invited to participate in the interview process which will take place between July 29 – August 9
  • Complete a virtual interview by August 9, 2024
  • Selected applicants will be notified of acceptance into the Bridge Program by August 15, 2024
    • Bridge Course begins August 19, 2024 and ends on September 23, 2024
    • Completion of the Bridge Course guarantees admittance into the Film Grip Training Course, which begins September 30, 2024 and ends December 16, 2024

ELIGIBILITY

  • 18 years old
  • High school diploma or equivalency
  • New York tristate area resident
  • Available to attend evening classes two nights a week.

Bridge to Film Production Grip Training Program

Build your foundational knowledge and start developing the daily skills necessary to work on a professional film set as a grip. You will become familiar with core competencies such as construction terminology, set etiquette, best practices, and safety rules and procedures used while working on a set and operating electric and power tools. This course prepares you for the Film Production Grip Training course. (30 hours) Scholarships available to eligible participants


Film Production Grip Training

Grips are active in all stages of a professional film production and help to keep sets safe and highly efficient. Learn how to operate tools and develop the skills that are needed during the course of a professional production in this hands-on training that mimics an actual film set. (60 hours) Pre-requisite: Bridge to Film Production Grip Training.


Information Session: Casting Assistant Training Program

Interested in a Career in Casting? Attend an information session! In partnership with the Theatrical Teamsters Local 817 and supported by funding through the New York Entertainment Workforce Diversity Grant Program, Netflix, Warner Bros. Discovery, and AMC Networks, Reel Works and LaGuardia Community College are hosting an intensive training program to prepare New Yorkers with the essential skills needed to work successfully as a Casting Assistant in the entertainment industry. Casting Assistants work with Casting Directors and Associates to source talent for television, film, theater, and commercials. They assist with general office tasks including communications, scheduling, and file management. They also provide support during casting sessions and screen tests by operating video cameras and/or capturing photos. No, this program is for 90 hours. You need over 300 hours to get into the union.
