Welcome
The Social Science Department is dedicated to nurturing a well- rounded individual who has both breadth and depth of knowledge drawn from anthropology, criminal justice, economics, history, political science, psychology, sociology and urban studies. Although they have different subject matters and different methodologies, all eight Social Science disciplines promote intellectual curiosity, careful observation and critical evaluation. They share a belief that these skills are essential for all students' academic, personal and professional development, regardless of their majors.
Social Scientists examine human behavior, social structure, cultural patterns, political processes, economic systems, and historical legacies. We try to help students better understand themselves and the world around them so that they can better control their futures. In the perpetual struggle for human dignity, we encourage students not only to appreciate their own heritage and the heritage of others, but also to acquire a sense of civic responsibility and a consciousness of the possibilities for meaningful social change. The Social Sciences are invaluable empowering disciplines, which expand students' horizons and prepare them for the challenges of life.
