Honors Opportunities
How can students participate in the Honors Program?
Honors Participation
They may enroll in individual Honors courses (which will be considered as Honors Participation) if they meet the minimum Honors requirements. With this option, there is no minimum number of Honors courses that a student is required to take.
Honors Concentration
Highly motivated and talented students may also choose to be involved in the comprehensive program (The Honors Concentration) following the Honors curriculum, and completing a minimum of 20-22 Honors credits (7 Honors courses). To receive an Honors Concentration notation on their official transcript and commencement book, Honors Concentration students must earn at least a B grade in each of the 7 minimum Honors courses in the Honors curriculum of their major.
Who should consider the Honors Concentration?
New students at LaGuardia who have a B+ or above high school average, and would like to complete the Honors Program Concentration. Permission from the Honors Program Director is required.
Current LaGuardia students who have completed 12 college credits and achieved a minimum GPA of 3.2, and would like to complete the Honors Program Concentration.

In addition to opportunities within the Honors Curriculum, Honors students are also eligible fornumerous academic, research and leadership opportunities.
These include:
- Conduct research and receive mentoring in the Friends of Koch Program for Honors students, a unique program offered through the college’s LaGuardia Wagner Archives which exposes talented studentsto New York City history, public service, academic mentoring, archival research and professionalnetworking experience.
- Run for leadership positions within the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) and Northeast Regional Honors Council (NRHC).
- Present scholarly research and be eligible for student awards at the annual conventions of the NCHC and NRHC, and other conferences.
- Serve on the HSAC Newsletter Action Group, and receive faculty mentoring for writing, editing and newsletter production.
- Serve on the Honors Journal Editorial Board.
- Gain leadership and teamwork experience through organizing events focused on transfer/scholarship applications, student research and related topics.
- Serve the campus and other communities by organizing civic engagement activities.
