    Here you will find answers to frequently asked questions regarding the commencement ceremony, graduation requirements, procedures, deadlines and other details for the Class of 2022. Be sure to check your email regularly for updates.







    Graduation Eligibility



    A. Graduation is the Registrar’s official confirmation that you have met all the degree requirements. Commencement is the ceremony hosted by LaGuardia Community College that celebrates students’ graduation.


    A. We will notify you by mail when the Registrar’s evaluation of your record is complete and you have met all your degree requirements.


    A. Most students are close to graduation when they reach 60 credits. You can check your progress online by using DegreeWorks, checking your Academic Profile in My LaGuardia or Chatting with an advisor.


    You need to apply for graduation even if you do not participate in the 2022 ceremony. However, the deadline to register for “Intent to Graduate” for Spring 2022 has passed. If you missed the Intent to Graduate deadline, please contact the Registrar at registrar@lagcc.cuny.edu.

    All students who have registered for Intent to Graduate before the deadline will have their names listed in the printed Commencement program.


    A. Once you apply for graduation, the Registrar will evaluate your record, determine whether you have met your degree requirements and confirm that you have graduated. If you have unmet requirements, you will receive an email explaining how to resolve them. If you don’t meet these requirements by the end of the semester in which you applied for graduation, you need to re-apply for graduation and be re-evaluated the following semester.


    A. Not at this time. The 2022 commencement ceremony is open for Fall 2021 graduates and Spring 2022 potential graduates (filed “Intent to Graduate”) to participate.


    A. Yes, if you applied for Intent to Graduate for Spring 2022 – Session I & II, then you are welcome to participate in the ceremony.


    A. If you are graduating with honors, there is nothing additional you need to do – we’ve got you covered.

    For Fall 2021 honors graduates, an asterisk (*) or a double asterisk (**) will appear next to your name in the commencement program booklet, indicating that you have graduated “with honors” or “with high honors.”

    Honors Stole, Cords and Tassels:
    If you are a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, you can purchase an honors stole, tassel or cord. Order online via the Phi Theta Kappa website at ptk.org.


    Ceremony



    A. Yes. We are hosting a 2022 commencement ceremony to celebrate the accomplishments of the Class of 2022 and to mark this special occasion. On Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at 9:30 a.m, we invite you, your family and friends to join us at Queens College.

    Please note there is a limit of two guests per student. Additional information will be communicated in the coming months. Please continue to check your email for updates.

    Note that a cap and gown are required to participate in the 2022 ceremony, and you may keep your cap and gown as a souvenir. Please see below for details.

    All graduates and guests must have a ticket to enter the ceremony. As a graduate, you will receive three tickets – one for yourself and two for guests. Tickets must be obtained on campus during cap-and-gown distribution; please see the Student Info page for details.


    A. Students must be vaccinated or have an approved religious exception or medical exemption.

    Guests must either be vaccinated or have proof of a negative COVID-19 test to enter the ceremony.

    A. If you are not vaccinated, you must wear a mask.

    If you are vaccinated, masks are encouraged but not required.

    A. The ceremony will take place on the Quad of Queens College, located at 65-30 Kissena Boulevard, Flushing, NY 11367. see directions.

    Street parking will be available for graduates and guests. Find more details on the Student Info webpage.


    A. Yes, there will be live sign language interpreters during the ceremony.


    A. Yes, you may use the restrooms in any of the buildings along the Quad.


    A. Yes. If you filed Intent to Graduate by the deadline (Thursday, April 28), your name will be listed in the printed Commencement program.


    A. Watch for messages from Parchment. LaGuardia has partnered with Parchment to deliver both a digital and hard copy diploma in a safe and secure manner. You will receive an email and text message (if applicable) from Parchment with a link to view, download and share your digital diploma.

    A hard copy of your diploma will also be mailed to the home address you have on file. Make sure we have your correct address and name:

    • To verify your home address, go to the CUNYfirst Student Center click “Profile,” then “Addresses.” Check that your home address is listed correctly; if not, click on it and make updates.
    • Your name is listed in your Profile in the CUNYfirst Student Center. Click on “Personal Details” to verify that your name is listed correctly. If you need to change your name, please complete the Personal Data Change Request form and submit it to the Registrar at registar@lagcc.cuny.edu

    A. Information printed on diplomas:

    • The name of the College and CUNY
    • Your name as it appears in CUNYfirst
    • Your degree earned (e.g. Associate of Arts)


    Information not printed on diplomas:

    • LaGuardia does not print majors on diplomas
    • If the credential earned was a certificate, “associate degree” will not be printed on the diploma

    A. Each student is allowed two (2) guests. Guests must have a ticket to enter the ceremony, and tickets must be obtained on campus during cap-and-gown distribution; please see the Student Info page for details.

    International F1 students who would like to request a graduation invitation letter for immediate family members outside the United States must contact the International Student Services Office at fsinformation@lagcc.cuny.edu to complete the International Student Office Letter Request form. Domestic students requesting the letter will need to complete the Enrollment Verification Request form. Students should visit the Registrar's Office in room C-107 or email Yingji Jin at yijin@lagcc.cuny.edu.


    A. Yes. The LGBTQIA Safe Zone Hub is hosting a virtual Lavender Graduation event to celebrate the accomplishments of LGBTQ+ graduates. Details to come.


    Graduation Attire and Portraits



    A. A cap and gown is required to participate in the 2022 ceremony. On-campus cap-and-gown distribution will take place June 13-16. (See details.) The deadline for online ordering has passed, but extra gowns will be available for purchase during cap-and-gown distribution.

    After May 31, you can still order keepsake attire through Herff Jones for home celebrations or pictures with standard home shipping costs of $7.95 per order. (Please note that there is no guaranteed delivery date for orders placed after May 31.)

    Please note:
    • Cap-and-gown purchases will not be available on the day of the ceremony.
    • If you ship to home, you still need to attend cap-and-gown distribution to get admission tickets.
