    Biography

    Joy Sanchez-Taylor earned her Ph.D. from the University of South Florida. Her research interest is multi-ethnic science fiction and fantasy. Her dissertation Science Fiction/Fantasy and the Representation of Ethnic Futurity explores the influence of science fiction/fantasy as applied to twentieth century and contemporary African American, Native American, and Latina/o texts. Her article “‘I was a Ghetto Nerd Supreme’: Science Fiction, Fantasy and Race in Junot Díaz’s The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao” was published in The Journal of the Fantastic in the Arts in 2015. Currently, she is working on an article that examines the notes and early drafts of Octavia Butler’s Fledgling, as well as articles on Celu Amberstone’s “Refugees” and Ted Chiang’s The Lifecycle of Software Objects.

    Biography Biography
    Professor C. Jason Smith holds a B.A. and M.A. from Texas A&M University-Commerce and the Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of Arkansas with major fields in Critical Theory, World Literature, the Anglophone Diaspora, and Spanish and Latin American Literature. He has published and presented widely on issues of sex, gender, and the body as represented in literature, film, and new media and is an active science and technology writer. His first book, Alien Woman: The Making of Lt. Ellen Ripley (Continuum, 2004; co-authored with Ximena Gallardo C.), was a recipient of the Ray and Pat Browne National Book Award from The Popular Culture Association. Dr. Smith is currently working on an interdisciplinary book on embodiment and representation tentatively titled Virtual Culture: Imagining Human Society.

    Biography Biography
    Luke Vasileiou is Associate Professor of English and co-Director of Composition. From 2010-2013 he served as contact advisor for LaGuardia’s Phi Theta Chapter and as contact person for the PTK scholarships. He grew up in Europe pursued graduate study in the US on a Fulbright Scholarship. His interests include Rhetoric and Composition, Narrative Theory, British Victorian Literature and Twentieth-Century American Literature. He has published and presented on American Literature, Honors education, and Composition pedagogy.
