PTAC Success Stories
LaGuardia PTAC Helps Staffing Company Break into Government Contracting
Nexus Staffing is a one-stop workforce solutions partner to small and mid-size companies seeking professional temporary and permanent employees for fast growth. The firm came to LaGuardia's Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) in the fall of 2009 when its president, Finny Varghese (pictured on the left), was looking for new opportunities in the government sector but didn't know how to get started.
PTAC advisors explained the government contracting process and helped Mr. Varghese apply for certifications such as the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) certification and the Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) certification, which later proved to be helpful in securing over $1 million in New York State contracts. PTAC staff also informed Mr. Varghese of the various tools and services at LaGuardia that were available to his company, including the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses education program. They assisted him with the application process for the program, and today Nexus Staffing is alumnus.
"The guidance and resources that PTAC has offered have proven to be immensely valuable" says Mr. Varghese. Nexus Staffing has grown over 24 times (2400%) in revenue since 2009, and he attributes that success to the counsel he received from PTAC.
Healthcare Consultants Company Notes LaGuardia PTAC's Expertise
Vanessa Best, CEO of Precision Healthcare Consultants, which provides expertise in coding and compliance audits and revenue cycle management as well as credentialing and marketing services, came to LaGuardia Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) looking for a high growth strategy that would help her sell to the government and take her business to the next level. PTAC did not disappoint!
"The proficient, qualified staff at PTAC has become an invaluable resource that has accelerated our growth at Precision" says Ms. Best. "They have guided us in navigating the governmental procurement process, from capability statement development, to Minority and Woman-Owned Business Enterprise (MWBE) and 8A Certification, to reviewing our responses to Requests for Proposals. They have also provided us with one-on-one mentoring and created a customized plan to help us tackle government contracting."
Since becoming a PTAC client in May 2014, Precision has had many successes, including:
- securing and completing a contract with the US Department of Labor/Employee Benefits Security Administration
- being invited by New York City Governor Cuomo to present a panel at the 2015 New York State MWBE Forum in Albany
- teaming with another MWBE on a New York State hospital contract
- completing a contract with one of the largest hospitals in the Department of Defense and receiving a certificate of Appreciation (picture in the left)
As an alumna of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses education program at LaGuardia, Ms. Best asserts "There are great things happening at LaGuardia to help businesses scale. The services received from PTAC have helped propel our growth. We are on track to see our revenue increase by 50% by the end of Quarter 1 2016."
