Last year, the Scientific Kaleidoscope team from the Natural Sciences department presented on the theme “Action = Change: Responding to the Environmental Crisis”, during our Fall 2019 Opening Sessions Workshop and a series of three public events were conducted on Climate Change.
This fall, we invite the students, staff and faculty of our college to join us again on November 23rd, 2:00-3:00pm, on Zoom, for a talk by Dr. Sarah Durand (Natural Sciences) on her research work and collaborative efforts for restoration of Newtown Creek. COVID-19 Town Hall Meeting

A breath of Fresh Air (?) Remote air pollution data collection event

While the Covid-19 Pandemic has prevented our usual in-person air pollution data collection events, you can still join Drs. Ingrid Veras and Charles Keller for a series of recorded air quality monitoring events. The events will be held on October 13th, 20th and 27th. While the Covid-19 Pandemic has prevented our usual in-person air pollution data collection events, you can still join Drs. Ingrid Veras and Charles Keller for a series of recorded air quality monitoring events. Handheld Aeroqual meters will be used to measure levels of gasses with known climate or health significance including Carbon Dioxide and ground-level Ozone. Readings will be taken twice daily (at roughly 6AM and 3PM) from Lance Corporal Thomas P. Noonan Jr. playground in Sunnyside Queens and Deluca Park in Elmsford New York. Readings will also be taken near the LaGuardia campus on two consecutive weekdays and in the faculty homes as well (TBA).
