Albert Jimenez is the department’s newest Biology college lab technician. He graduated from Queens College CUNY in 2005 with a degree in Psychology and a minor in Biology. He has worked at the Neuroscience laboratory at Queens College throughout his undergraduate career. Mr. Jimenez has had many years of experience working in behavioral laboratories and he is continuing his education in Biology and Veterinary science. He is responsible for coordinating the SCB 115 Principles of Biology and SCB 201 Fundamentals of Biology I. He hopes to extend his learned experience to all students at LaGuardia Community College.
Mr. Alfredo Cifuentes has been at the college for over 25 years and is the department’s most experienced laboratory technician. He graduated from Queens College CUNY in 1985 with a degree in Biology and worked at the Albert Einstein School of Medicine in the otobiology laboratory in inner ear development of mammals. He joined the US ARMY’s 25TH infantry Division in 1976 and stationed in Hawaii working as a draftsman illustrator. Since joining the LaGuardia Community College family, Mr. Cifuentes has been the department’s Senior CLT training all other Lab Technicians and in charge of SBC 260 Microbiology lab sections. He oversees chemical and equipment inventory and purchasing. He also coordinates the Natural Sciences Department’s over 70 sections of Biology. Mr. Cifuentes is also a member of the department’s Honors Night committee to award students with exceptional academic achievement in science courses.
Ms. Lhamo Tshering earned her B.A. in Biochemistry from Barnard College, Columbia University in 2008. She is currently a graduate student at Queens College in the Chemistry department and has been performing research on the use of nitric oxide as an antioxidant on E. coli and B. subtilis. She is in charge of coordinating the SCB 202 Fundamentals of Biology II and SCB 204 Anatomy and Physiology II and assists Mr. Cifuentes in preparing for Microbiology laboratories. She is also a member of the school’s Chemical Hygiene Committee where she advises on proper chemical waste practices. Ms Tshering has been involved in many school activities including CPR training and career advising to ESL students.
Lily Leon is a College Lab Technician for the chemistry laboratories. She graduated from Queens College CUNY with a degree in Geology. Her graduate thesis involved the application of the natural radionuclide polonium-210 to identify suspended particles in western Long Island Sound. Ms. Leon is responsible for all chemistry teaching laboratories. She provides technical support for all lab instructors and maintains inventory of equipment and chemicals. She is also a member of the Natural Sciences Curriculum Committee, where she offers advice in new course offerings by the department.
Nelson Roman is a College Laboratory Technician (CLT) for the chemistry laboratories. He graduated in 2011 from Purchase College SUNY with a B.S. in Biology. His undergraduate thesis involved the testing for water quality in the Bronx River affected by nearby NYC sewage treatment plants. Nelson hopes to continue his education to eventually complete a medical degree. He currently oversees daily laboratory operations including the organic chemistry classes, preparing experiments for students and manages the inventory of all chemicals and equipment.
Sidney Noelle graduated from LaGuardia Community College with a degree in Liberal Arts after many years of working in the fashion and cosmetics industry. She is currently a student at Queens College CUNY where she is to complete a B. S. in Biology. Her interests include neurophysiology and behavior. She is in charge of organizing and coordinating the SCB 203 Human Anatomy and Physiology I and SCB 101 Topics in Biology laboratory sections for the Natural Sciences Department. She is also a member of the department’s Honors Night committee and the Travel Awards committee.
