June 2009 Innovative Leadership Award Reception
The LaGuardia Community College Foundation presented 2009 Innovative
Leadership Awards to founding directors Peter L. DiCapua, the outgoing
chairperson and COO of Atco Properties and Management, Inc.; Peter Koo,
a pharmacist and owner of Starside Drugs in Flushing; and Robert C.
Morgan, Esq., a partner at the Manhattan law firm of Ropes and Gray at a
reception held at the United Nations in June. The event raised over
$100,000 in scholarship funds for LaGuardia students.

June 2009 Three New Board Directors Elected
The LaGuardia Community College Foundation Board elected three new
directors. The new directors will serve for three years, and are eligible for a
second term thereafter.

April 2009 Passing of the Gavel
The LaGuardia Community College Foundation formally recognized the term
of incoming Chairman John Vogt in a ceremony at the College in April.
Outgoing Foundation Chairman and Board Director Peter L. DiCapua passed
the Chairman’s gavel to Mr. Vogt before Board Directors, LaGuardia
President Dr. Gail O. Mellow and LaGuardia Vice President of
Institutional Advancement, E. Ramone Segree.

March 2009 Spring Into Action Scholarship Campaign Launched
The LaGuardia Community College Foundation raised $29,000 in scholarship
support for degree-pursuing students with financial need through its
“Spring Into Action” fundraising campaign. From March 1 through May 29,
the Foundation received gifts ranging from $50 to $5,000 as members of
the LaGuardia community showed their support for education.
