![]() Writing, like art is a form of expression, being more literal in content. I often find writing and producing art equally difficult, because ideas are established inside our minds but communicating in words can be difficult. Even though I have written many papers, writing an introduction can be strenuous. My love for literature and dedication towards composing the perfect piece is what drives me to write. Art and literature serve the same functions, to entertain or defile, these purposes are essential because we need laughter and anguish. Majoring in Fine Arts at LaGuardia Community College, I have produced art expressing my interpretation of subject matter. Through a process of analytical and systematic thinking, I am able to create art which sets forth a solution. Dealing with elements in an artwork, such as composition and contrast, while considering accuracy are challenges. Consequently, one becomes unconscious of methods in the process. Therefore ,artworks serve as records of how I've approached problems. It is crucial for every artist to know himself and the world to improve.
Below are links to my portfolio, which I have produced while studying at LaGuardia Community College. My artworks are studies from life, whether still-lives or live models, demonstrating close examination of different elements. As a result, each work varies depending on motive. Technique is most important in my artwork, because it proves the artist's organization and control. Having a method allows one to be more aware of the process and makes everything easier. Also the ability to improvise is important when a plan fails.
-------------------2004------------------ During fall of 2004, I've noticed various improvements in my drawings because of constant practice. My whole perception of subject matter changed, seeing subjects more abstractly rather than figuratively. As a result, a transition in my style formed, from a naturalistic to a combination of realistic and abstract. Subsequently, my technique also altered using more of a painterly approach in drawing.
Below you will find a variety of papers, most are writing projects for courses that I have completed at LaGuardia Community College. They consist of research papers, essays and in class assignments. The others are writings done on my free time, some are personal, poetry being one of my favorites. Also I've included critiques for many artworks of museums and galleries.
---------------Research Papers-------------- While attending LaGuardia for the past two years, I've written many research papers for required classes in English and Humanities. Researching unfamiliar topics is a learning experience, especially when it's interrelated to your interest. Learning in class is one aspect of education, but self obtained knowledge is equally important. Enlightenment through experience and reading is the purpose of research papers and it signifies ones development.
-------------------2005------------------ This year I strive to try something different, last year was interesting with development in style and technique, but a time comes when all must change. Since I've gained a better understanding in composition, my next goal is to improve in contrast. Because I possess a sensitive touch, my work leans more on the bright side. Achieving a higher level of contrast will be enjoyable for me, especially when it involves manipulating materials. Smudging, rubbing the medium through physical contact, and other rendering of material is a new technique for me, which I've always wanted to develop in.
-------------------Recent----------------- Essays are my personal weakness, especially when they are required to be completed in class. I am often traumatized by time limits with class essays because I am a patient writer. I take a significant amount of time in composing a paper, thinking very carefully before physically writing. Essays are important in showing improvisation, pushing the writer to think as he or she goes, conveying how well his/her mind and body work together.
