The goal of the GEAR UP program is to empower 11th grade students from John Bowne, Newtown, and Flushing High Schools with the academic skills, motivation and college preparation necessary for persistence and success in their post-secondary education in full partnership with their families and the greater community.  

The GEAR UP program is dedicated to creating permanent and sustainable institutional changes that will enable students to meet high standards and make informed decisions about their future schooling and career path while allowing for a smooth transition from middle school to high school and from there, to college.
